Condolences Letter from Chief Rabbi of Israel

To the Jewish community of Moldova,

I would like to send my condolences to the Jewish communities in the country of Moldova following the passing of Chief Rabbi Zalman Tuvia Abelsky, of blessed memory. He was the survivor of his generation, a senior Chabad shliach who was sent to do his work by the Rebbe HaRayatz. He worked with singular dedication during some of the hardest times behind the Iron Curtain and he had the merit of restoring basic Jewish life to this country.

Thanks to his efforts, many successful Chabad institutions for Torah and welfare, and also many synagogues have opened in this country.

I extend my sincere condolences to his widow, who tirelessly supported him throughout the years of his many activities, Rebbitzen Leah Abelsky, and to his sons, who are continuing to follow in his ways, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak and Rabbi Yeshayah Zushe.

May his merit protect you, and may the foundations that he built continue bear even more fruit forever, and may this also be a great merit for his soul.

May you be comforted with the comfort of Jerusalem and Zion.

I share your sorrow with you,

David Lau,

Chief Rabbi of Israel
